Omar Crook has appeared as a soloist on both the operatic and concert stage in venues throughout the world. Most recently, he sang the role of Count Almaviva as a guest artist in Opera San Jose's production of The Barber of Seville, the West Coast premier of des Grieux in Auber's Manon Lescaut, and as tenor soloist in Mozart's Requiem in the "Forbidden City" in Beijing, China.
In 2006, Mr. Crook originated the role of Fervio in the world premier of Eric Whitacre's Paradise Lost. He has performed many leading operatic roles including Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Alfredo in La Traviata, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love, Tamino in The Magic Flute, Albert in Albert Herring, and in opera rarities such as Donizetti's Rita, and Goyescas by Enrique Granados.
A frequent performer on the concert stage, Mr. Crook has appeared as soloist with The Boston Pops Orchestra, Pacific Chorale, the John Alexander Singers, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra under the direction of John Mauceri, Keith Lockhart, and John Alexander.
Mr. Crook received his formal training at California State University at Fullerton.
"Omar Gutierrez Crook as the Steersman gave a stellar performance in this secondary role, matching the excellence of the principals." |
Jeanie Forte - Palo Alto Weekly - May 20, 2008 |
As Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville: |
"Mr. Crook sang with a touching ardor. And his duets with baritone Daniel Cilli, as Figaro, were trippingly harmonious and giddy, as the two hatch their plot, involving all sorts of ridiculous disguises and subterfuge." |
Richard Scheinin - San Jose Mercury News |
As Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni: |
"Tenor Omar Crook is the perfect match as her heroic fiancé Don Ottavio, soaring in his arias and playing with a tremendous goodness and devotion " |
Jacob Clark - Metro LA |
As Des Grieux in Auber's Manon Lescaut |
"As Des Grieux, Omar Crook's breathtaking tenor never strained or went over the top." |
Laura Hitchcock - A Curtain Up Los Angeles Opera Review |
"Omar Crook was Le Chevalier des Grieux, and sang exceptionally well." |
Dawn Southwick - Opera LA |
