Peter H. Brown was born in New York City and, with the exception of a two-year period spent in Chicago and a ten-year period spent as the General and Artistic Director of Anchorage Opera, he has been a resident of the Big Apple. He attended Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and Harvard University where he received his BA in English Literature.
Mr. Brown started his theatrical career in the corps de ballet of the Philadelphia Lyric Opera where he shared the stage with many luminaries including Dame Joan Sutherland and Renata Tebaldi.
He has worked as a manager for dance, theatre and other performing arts companies, including Chicago Ballet and the Sydney (Australia) Dance Company. In the late 80's he was General Manager of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and produced its annual season at New York's historic City Center Theater, which, at one time, he also managed.
As a consultant in arts management and public relations, he has worked with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Russia's "Stars of the Bolshoi Ballet" and Miami Opera, where he produced the Seventh World Wide Madam Butterfly Singing Competition.
He became General Director of Anchorage Opera in 1994. He retired from this position in 2003. He now serves as a member of The New York Baroque Dance Company's Board of Directors and on the Board of Advisors for the Arleen Auger Memorial Fund.
ALTERNATIVE CAREERS IN THE ARTS |
Not all singers, dancers and actors can be divas, prima ballerinas or stars of stage, screen and television. In this lecture, Mr. Brown explores other careers that artists may follow. The curtain can't go up without them! |
|
AUDITION TECHNIQUES WORKSHOPS |
These sessions, performed in collaboration with Mrs. Novo, inform aspiring singers about the qualities that agents, managers, conductors, company directors and presenters look for. In these sessions the singers are also instructed in audition preparation, psychology, appearance and how to give a committed performance, not just a "good audition." |
